metes and bounds
A boundary written as a walking route: direction and distance, corner to corner.
A way of describing land by walking its perimeter in words. "Metes" are the measured distances and directions; "bounds" are the physical or legal features the parcel runs along. Starting at a known corner, the description gives one call after another until it arrives back where it started.
